No one has time for poor quality goods, at least that’s what we preach! Here at Hills & West we do our research into how different brands continue to create quality and have a huge appreciation for the iconic bags of the past.
Here’s a great read on some of the inspiring handbag brands and why they are at the top of their game and always a quality investment.
The now legendary brand’s story that started in a flight in 1981 where Jane Birkin caught the attention of Hermes CEO Jean-Louis Dumas while she was struggling with her handbag. Dumas sought her advice to make a better handbag and the Birkin bag was launched three years later.

2. Sustainability: Ethical and Vegan Online Retailer Flora & Fauna Opens its First Sydney Store
Very exciting read by Broadsheet about the opening of a new online retail store Flora & Fauna, who are trying to promote sustainable living and supporting produces. We can’t wait to visit their new store in North Rocks and stock up on their new produce.
The 11,000-square-metre North Rocks warehouse sells more than 6000 items and house Australia’s first Ecostore bulk refill station, and there’s a big party this weekend to celebrate.
So much sustainable produce, everything you can think of food, make up, toiletries etc
3. Interior: A Time of Refined Opulence
Here at Hills & West we’re always on the hunt for new vintage interiors, one of our favourites is The Vault Sydney. Providing one of a kind traditional antiques. Here is one of their home styling blogs with showcasing a collection of 1700’s Rococo style pieces they have and how you can still style them in your home today.
Centuries later the luxury, elegance and romantic Neoclassical design is still prominent in today’s interiors. The design schemes of sophistication are continuously being used to elevate different landscapes.
We love mixing old and new to create a new story
4. Fashion: 6 Up and Coming Australian Fashion Brands To Know In 2019
We believe it’s important to always be aware of new emerging brands, especially Australian ones and try to support them as much as possible. Here is a great list by InStyle on emerging Australian clothing brands who are bringing a new flare to the market from sustainable hats, hand crafted leather shoes, hair clips, nightwear and more. So next time you are looking for a gift or new outfit definitely worth checking out some of these brands. We also love reading their story, why they started and how they create their pieces.
From longline silk numbers to slip dresses made to be seen in and short and camisole sets worth investing in, this brand is the new standard in sleepwear. Plus, with every product made in Australia, it’s an investment worth making.
5. Lifestyle: My Morning Routine, What I Do & Why
Running two of my own businesses people always ask me how I stay to motivated, organised and efficient (well doesn’t feel like that sometimes). My advice to them is a good routine and early mornings become your best friend. Here’s one by a blogger we love Sam Laura Brown. The perfect step by step guide not forcing you to get up early but tips on how to custom your morning routine to become something you love and look forward to. We know not everyone is a morning person 🙂
Weather its like us, waking up to the smell of fresh coffee, cuddling my puppy or even going for my morning walk, find the things you love and what get you inspired and make sure you get a routine going that works for you. Think it might be time to write a blog about what works for us at Hills & West 😉
“The point of this whole thing is figuring out what will work for you…. Make sure you only choose a few things and be proud of yourself when you do them. This is about you, not about comparing yourself to anyone else.
Focus on your strengths instead of trying to improve your weaknesses.”
Well thats a wrap this week on our favourite reads. We hope this inspired you for new outfits, home interiors and even maybe, some lifestyle changes.
Big love.
