Introducing Chevron Chic with Darcy, Parker & Baxter

Introducing Chevron Chic with Darcy, Parker & Baxter

Meet our latest collection crafted as the chic, transeasonal solution to all your work, weekend and evening elegance needs. The perfect companion for the stylish commuter with a minimalist design that delivers maximum impact to your wardrobe.

The Chevron Collection, of course handmade in Australia, was designed and refined through traditional artisan techniques during my time in Italy in 2017. Absolutely obsessed with herringbone and chevron symmetry, I wanted to create a collection inspired by the chevron and clean minimal architecture. I have always been in awe of architects who create beauty out of simplicity and decided to have this as my inspiration for the new collection. While living in Italy for 3 months inspiration was everywhere as history and modern-contemporary design combined.

There has been a resurgence in popularity for Minimalism over recent years as both a design practice and way of life. Minimalism with respect to architecture is about achieving better design through simplicity. Simplicity of form, space, materiality, detail, and colour. This practice allows the viewer to admire the structures aesthetic without overstimulation so that they may occupy a place of internal serenity. This is what we have aspired to achieve at Hills & West.

Through minimalist design we restrain ourselves from overcompensating features in attempts to deliver style. We practice a careful paring down and editing of form, structure, detail and spaces to ensure we create the best looking, highest quality and most efficient products for you.

Minimalist design tricks the un-trained eye into conceiving of the object as serving a limited number of purposes. Successful minimal design and design in general is achieved when its user continually discovers a multitude of uses and adaptations for the object. People mistake this as an accident, however it’s just thoughtful design. With extensive research and experimentation we are proud to introduce to you the Chevron Collection always delivering surprise and delight.

The Chevron Collection features three bags that consist of three defining characteristics:

·       Repetition – uncomplicated

·       Formal simplicity – elegance

·       Use of voids – efficient

The Chevron collection come in classic ink black, midnight navy and is combined with tasteful gold features. This cohesiveness allows the products to look fantastic on their own or be collected as a set. With their considered simplicity and understated accents the Chevron Bags are reminiscent of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavillion and Gimeno and Guitart creates chevron-patterned concrete design for the church of Santa Maria Assumpta. Refined, clean, minimalist, simple, but most importantly modernist-classic. This ensures the bags can be used for any season and occasion, whether you’re at work or a cocktail party.

We carefully engineered the voids, zips, slips, and pockets so that you may fit a lot in what looks to be a relatively small space. The Darcy for instance is perfect as an overnight bag or an office bag that can easily fit your computer or even a pair of flats for when you need to race between meetings. The Darcy has a detatchable shoulder strap for when you need hands free. The Parker features an adjustable strap that allows you to wear them as shoulder bags or cross-body for easy carrying. The Baxter features a wristlet to detach if the clutch sleek aesthetic is more to your taste. All designs were made to work well in every season with any outfit.

“Simplicity is the essence of happiness” – Cedric Bledsoe

And of course, I always have a story. Why has each piece been given a name? As this is the first time I have ever named my pieces individually, rather than just use descriptors, I wanted the names to be special and meaningful. I decided, as it was not my time to have children yet, and I had put some much love and time into this collection, nurturing and perfecting it, I would name each bag after my favourite, potential children’s names. Boy or girl. They have been much more than 9 months in the making and I am so excited to introduce them to the world.

I hope you love Darcy, Parker and Baxter as much as I do!

If you do… you can have one of your very own. More details below:

Big love
